Both Q and Izumo are distrustful of others, fast on the uptake by erring on the side of cynical/assuming the worst of others, smart and impossibly smug about it. But Q is more comfortable relying on others than her canon counterpart, and thus leans heavily on B to run lives, make decisions on games and for emotional support. Despite the setting, there is less sense of urgency, so while she wants to step up and pull her weight by playing social games aggressively or hosting Lives, she just goes around demanding prezzies and headpets from her older siblings and trying to sort out her teenage feelings drama. Work is hard and people are hot, okay. She's got a crush on Camellia, who by merit of being in imeeji longer, is now the person of knowledge and authority in their relationship, which flips the dynamic of their canon relationship. She defers to Camellia's experience, and tries to make up for bullying her in the past by being nice (ish) and supportive.

With Pink, there are a A Lot of Complicated feelings. She has bad taste in guys and rage is apparently one hell of an aphrodisiac I guess. Q is more into him than Izumo was with Shima, because games have facilitated quite a bit of physical contact. So while she knows he's bad for backstabbing her and constantly teasing her, it's satisfying to rail on him without caring about his feelings. If she bullies someone she believes truly deserves it, then clearly it's okay.

Canon vs Imeeji - Yvette

Yvette is a combination of subversion and playing straight with her canon counterpart's motivations.

The bulk of Yvette's canon memories center around another role she was hired to play, a teenage girl named Yuizaki Hiyono, whose personality was engineered to endear her to her mark, Ayumu, a bitter, sarcastic, anti-social genius with little motivation and even less self-confidence. To that end, she positioned herself as a useful resource for information, whose relentless pursuit of the next big scoop and the shamelessness with which she used it to terrorize her entire school and some of the local police department made her romantically viable exclusively to him. Her loud-mouthed, blunt, violent and annoyingly persistent personality was what was needed for the job.

The motivation behind Yvette's personality is the same, even if she presents herself differently. Unlike Hiyono, Yvette is engineered to meet the key themes of her unit and mass community appeal. It was evident early on that BiT would need a PR person. What little she remembered about deceiving The Teens by pretending to be one of them left a bad taste in her mouth, so she opted for something more mature, but the overly distant customer service-y demeanor was off-putting (for more than just Intensity). Personality rebalancing happened, and she settled on a soft, older sister-type: Not authoritative enough to be categorized as an "adult," justifiable reasons for demonstrating concern and care for others, more focused on letting others lead the pace and listening, instead of hamfisting herself into situations and forcibly dragging others into her pace the way Hiyono would.

Beyond the PR face, she tries to be more transparent in terms of her thought process, initially because she didn’t want to lie to people, but removing the brain to mouth filter when her thought process is so calculating and methodical made her seem inhuman, so that was phased out. Instead, she focused on mentoring those interested in her skills, explaining techniques used in espionage, from monitoring the heart rate as an analog lie detector to lock picking and escaping from handcuffs. The addition of Paloma to BiT has made her more comfortable with talking espionage shop, and it is refreshing to have someone around that she doesn’t need to explain things to.

In canon, she had minimal contact with her employer and operated alone. In Imeeji, she was initially inclined to this since Kohime and Eichi didn’t seem to have much interest in Lives or PR, but as more helper-types have joined (and stayed) on their unit, she’s been able to do other things like seek out the audition idols, training Talon and Song, and being generally social. Paloma has also been a boon regarding PR/in-unit relations, though they also spend a lot of time gossiping about their unitmates.

What has been the most surprising character development for Intensity?
